EPFL

The socio-economic value of civil engineering infrastructure is greater than ever before and the maintenance and improvement of civil structures is therefore now a task of highest importance, in order to address the needs of modern society.

The laboratory for Maintenance and Safety of Structures (MCS) was formed at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne (EPFL) to address this challenge through education, research and technology transfer. The mission of MCS is to enhance knowledge and to develop methods and technologies, for the safety and reliability evaluation of civil structures, and for interventions to improve civil structures for increased utilisation demands and extension of service life.
